Access Engineering PLC

A Modern Digital Presence for a Leading EPC Contractor

Project Introduction

Access Engineering PLC is a leading Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) contractor, uniquely positioned as the only Greenfield construction company publicly listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange. With diversified business operations in sectors such as construction, materials, property development, automotive, and mechanical engineering, Access Engineering needed a digital presence that aligned with its industry stature and showcased its multi-sectoral capabilities. The new website was developed to elevate the company's online profile and offer a structured, user-friendly experience for its diverse range of visitors.

My Role

As the lead Front-End Developer and UI/UX Designer, I was responsible for the overall site structure, visual design, and front-end development. Working closely with the client, I developed wireframes and mockups, and implemented a responsive, accessible design using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Bootstrap. I also integrated WordPress as the Content Management System (CMS) to allow for easier client management and updates, adapting the design to leverage WordPress's flexibility and security features.

Target Audience

The primary audience for this project included potential clients, investors, partners, and job seekers. Each user group required streamlined access to critical information—project details, service offerings, investor relations, and career opportunities. With a focus on ease of navigation, the design also needed to appeal to users from various backgrounds, including engineers, corporate stakeholders, and the general public.

Challenges

A key challenge in this project was finalizing the information architecture to ensure that each of the company's business verticals was clearly represented. Due to the wide array of services and sectors Access Engineering covers, organizing content in a way that was both intuitive and comprehensive required a careful, iterative process with the client. The timeline extended to accommodate in-depth consultations to get the structure and content flow aligned with the client's objectives.

My Approach

My approach prioritized user-centric design, balancing aesthetic appeal with functional clarity. The following steps were taken to meet the project's goals:

  • Information Architecture: Collaborated with the client to map out a clear, hierarchical structure, ensuring each business vertical and service offering was well-represented. Regular feedback sessions helped refine this structure.
  • Responsive Design: Using Bootstrap as the UI framework, I ensured that the website adapted seamlessly across devices, from desktops to mobile phones, ensuring a consistent experience regardless of screen size.
  • CMS Customization: I implemented WordPress as the CMS, customizing it to manage complex layouts and dynamic content easily. The customization allowed Access Engineering's team to update content independently, a feature that aligned with their long-term needs.
  • Front-End Development: Leveraged HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for an engaging, visually cohesive interface. Interactivity was enhanced with JavaScript to improve user engagement without compromising site speed.
The result was a professional, easy-to-navigate website that effectively showcases Access Engineering's services, projects, and corporate identity, setting a new benchmark for their digital presence in the industry.
